Las Vegas Done Two Ways
/We recently took our seventh trip to Las Vegas together so I guess you could say we enjoy the place a bit.
It was our first trip away from our new baby, Lincoln, and we took it as an opportunity to continue planning for 2020 and beyond. This trip to Vegas was one of our calmer ones.
Arriving on a Friday night, we took the long drive to our hotel to take in the lights and enjoy our bottle of champagne. After taking in the perfect view of the Bellagio Fountains from our room, we grabbed burgers at Wahlburgers (who doesn’t love Marky Mark?) and ended the night with a little gambling.
The long weekend included a couple of brunches (with endless mimosas), a trip to Fremont Street, Cirque du Soleil’s O, the Eiffel Tower restaurant, and of course, a spa day at the Waldorf Astoria. Oh, and gambling. Lots of gambling.
Throughout our trip, we talked about the 6 previous trips to Vegas we had taken together. One was a last-minute trip we took on a whim because we had nothing else to do that weekend. Another to introduce family members to the great city. Two were to see Britney Spears. Two to see the Backstreet Boys. We’re 90s kids, alright?
We also got to talking about how we both do Vegas a bit differently and we had to make some adjustments upon getting married.
We actually took our first trips to Vegas individually before we ever met and oddly only weeks apart. The differences between us can be highlighted in our first trips to Vegas.
I (Billy) had just graduated from college and was in the middle of a road trip across the western part of the United States. I drove into the town as part of a road trip. I was there all by myself because I love doing things alone. I was on a limited budget only staying for one night in the Hooters Hotel and Casino. I was quite classy back then.
Ashley was there to celebrate her 21st birthday with family & friends. She loves people and hates driving. Being her boujee-self, Ashley stayed in the Paris Hotel for 4 nights.
I pulled an all-nighter that was filled with gambling and drinking. I had 22 one-dollar bills to tip the cocktail waitresses in the casino. I had none of those dollars left so I guess that’s how many beers I had! I gambled all the money I had that night and had to continue my road trip a lot poorer.
Ashley’s trip was much different. She hit up a nightclub. She barely gambled. She hung out with her mom. She went to see a show. She saw the sites and even did a day trip to the Hoover Dam!
You’ll often hear us talk about how different we are. We share a common love for Vegas, but our differences have come out in how we do Vegas together. On this trip, we each brought elements we love to our trips together.
Gambling. We do lots of gambling. So much gambling that Ashley keeps an eye out for me to make sure I stay far away from the ATM.
We stay at much nicer places because Ashley is not into the Hooters Hotel (and it’s something else now). But we are only able to do that because of all my comps (see above)!
We go to shows. Ashley loves the entertainment in Vegas and now I do too.
We eat at some nice restaurants and some hole-in-the-walls.
We have some things planned out because I love a good plan. We also go with the flow a lot because Ashley hates having a plan on trips.
We go to spas because that is one thing we both love!
Vegas is one of our favorite places to go together because we fell in love with it separately. We do Vegas differently. And now we do Vegas together like champs.
We do Vegas better together than we ever did on our own.
